Saint Bernadette, the Visionary

Saint Bernadette, born Bernadette Soubirous in 1844, experienced multiple visions of the Virgin Mary in Lourdes, France.

The Virgin Mary appeared to Bernadette a total of 18 times at the grotto of Massabielle, revealing herself as the Immaculate Conception.

Bernadette’s visions attracted widespread attention and drew pilgrims from all over the world to Lourdes.

The Miraculous Spring

During one of her visions, the Virgin Mary instructed Bernadette to dig in the earth at the grotto, which resulted in the discovery of a spring with healing properties.

Numerous miraculous healings have been attributed to the waters of the spring, which have since become a focal point of pilgrimage and devotion for Catholics.

Saint Bernadette’s Legacy

Saint Bernadette joined the Sisters of Charity of Nevers and lived a life of simple obedience and service to God until her death in 1879.

She was canonized as a saint by the Catholic Church in 1933 and is celebrated on April 16th each year.

Saint Bernadette’s life continues to inspire millions of believers around the world to seek faith, humility, and devotion in their own lives.
